PADDLE CARE INSTRUCTIONS

We offer two clamp options for our adjustable paddles: Nylon and Stainless Steel.

Both provide a secure connection, but each has different characteristics and maintenance requirements.

Nylon Clamp Maintenance

Our nylon clamp is a simple, practical option that requires minimal maintenance when properly cared for.

Things to consider:

  • Over time, repeated use can cause wear to the nylon locking lever, potentially reducing its ability to hold the paddle adjustment securely.

  • If this occurs, the lever can be replaced without replacing the entire clamp assembly.

  • Nylon does not develop the tea staining associated with stainless steel.

Maintenance:

  • Keep the internal shaft clean. Sand, grit and other particles trapped between the adjustable shaft sections can scratch and gradually wear down the shaft surface.

  • Rinse the paddle shaft and joiner thoroughly with fresh water after use, particularly in sandy or saltwater environments.

  • Listen when assembling or adjusting your paddle. The shaft sections should slide together smoothly without making a scratching or grinding sound. If you hear scratching, separate the sections and clean them thoroughly before reassembling.

  • Avoid overtightening the clamp. If the shaft begins to slip, increase the clamp tension gradually, starting with just a quarter or half turn of the adjustment mechanism. Check the grip before making further adjustments. Excessive tightening can cause unnecessary wear or damage to the nylon lever.

  • Periodically inspect the locking lever for wear and order a replacement lever via email if required.

Stainless Steel Clamp Maintenance

Our stainless steel clamp offers a durable alternative with a metal locking mechanism.

Things to consider:

  • Stainless steel can develop light brown surface discolouration known as tea staining, particularly following repeated exposure to salt water.

  • Tea staining is generally cosmetic and does not necessarily indicate structural deterioration.

  • Occasional cleaning may be required to maintain the appearance of the stainless steel.

Maintenance:

  • Rinse the paddle, clamp and joiner thoroughly with fresh water after use, particularly following saltwater exposure.

  • Keep the internal shaft sections free from sand and grit, as abrasive particles can damage the shaft surface.

  • Avoid unnecessary overtightening of the adjustment mechanism.

Removing Tea Staining

If light brown surface staining develops, it can be treated using a suitable stainless steel cleaning product.

Two available options are:

  • Septone Boatcare Hull Stain Remover – available from Anaconda and BCF.

Both products contain phosphoric acid and should be handled carefully.

When cleaning:

  1. Follow the product manufacturer's instructions and safety precautions.

  2. Apply the cleaner only to the affected stainless steel surfaces, taking care to avoid contact with the carbon shaft, nylon parts and other clamp components. Where practical, remove the stainless steel components before treatment.

  3. Rinse thoroughly with fresh water to remove any remaining cleaning solution.

  4. Dry the components completely before reassembly.

Do not mix cleaning products or allow acidic cleaning solutions to remain on the clamp.

CARBON BLADE CARE

The inside face of your Meek paddle blade has a raw carbon finish. With regular care, this surface will retain its appearance and remain protected from prolonged exposure and weathering.

After use, particularly in salt water, rinse the paddle with fresh water and allow it to dry before storage. Avoid harsh cleaners, solvents or abrasive pads on the carbon surface.

To maintain the finish, we recommend periodically applying a light coat of Cabot's Floor Polish to the inside face of the blade. Apply sparingly to a clean, dry surface and allow to dry before use. The polish refreshes the appearance of the carbon and leaves a protective coating that provides additional UV protection to the surface.

For best results, store your paddle out of prolonged direct sunlight when not in use.

Regular rinsing and occasional treatment will help keep your Meek paddle looking its best for years to come.
